Since 1982 the Sherwood Ladies Golf League has offered an opportunity for all women in the area to play weekly in a fun-focused, nine hole format. Play alternates between the front and back nine throughout the month. The group plays every Monday morning, beginning in mid April and continuing until the end of September. Players are grouped at random in teams of three or four each Monday before play begins. Each week is a different game, with a ''twist" added to the game score. Winners are announced each week for low gross, low net and the game of the week.

Individual scores are recorded on a "ringer board" on the beginning day of the season and improvements are noted each week for all holes on the front and back nine. Players also record their birdies, chip-ins and eagles throughout the season. The first Monday of each month is a scramble format, with lunch following. In the scramble format, players' handicaps are balanced on every team so no team has an unfair advantage.

The league's annual fee is $15. The course fee is $9 each week and every player adds another dollar to the kitty from which awards and cash prizes are given at the end of the season.

The awards luncheon is held the second Monday in October. Several awards are given, including the league's Champion and Most Improved Player on both the front and back nine. Small cash prizes are given for all the season's game winner$, birdies, chip-ins and eagles. Officers are elected for the new year at the luncheon.

The league welcomes new players at any time during the season. It's a perfect course for beginning players, since the course is a short, nine hole format. It's also an opportunity for more experienced players to sharpen their short game. The encouragement and friendship extended especially to new members makes the Sherwood Forest Ladies Golf League a wonderful way to spend Monday mornings in Transylvania County.
